Royal Caribbean has paused all visits to Labadee, its private destination in northern Haiti, citing safety concerns amid growing unrest. This comes just days after Haiti’s transitional government declared a national emergency and approved a new “war budget” to fight gang violence.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily paused our upcoming visits to Labadee,” the cruise line said. Guests have already been notified.
It’s the second suspension in less than a year. Celebrity Cruises had already removed Labadee from its itineraries weeks earlier. While Labadee itself isn’t seeing violence, recent U.S. Embassy alerts and the country’s fragile state have prompted the move.
With commercial flights limited and tourism already suffering, the suspension deals another blow to local vendors who depend on cruise passengers. For now, there’s no word on when sailings to Labadee will resume.
